Personal Profile
Dr. Yibing Wang is a full professor and a Vice Director of the Institute of Intelligent Transportation Systems (IITS), Zhejiang University, China. His research interests include road traffic flow modeling, surveillance, control and optimization, and in particular, freeway traffic state estimation, freeway ramp metering and variable speed limit control, urban traffic signal control, route guidance in road networks, connected and automated vehicles (CAV). He has published 6 book chapters, about 50 refereed journal articles and 70 conference papers in the above areas.
Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. degree in Control Theory and Applications from Tsinghua University, China, in 1998. He was a Postdoc/Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow with the Dynamic Systems and Simulation Laboratory, Department of Production Engineering and Management, Technical University of Crete, Greece, from 1999 to 2007. He was a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Monash University, Australia from 2007 to 2013. He was elected by the Zhejiang Provincial Thousand Talents Plan Program in China in 2012, and joined Zhejiang University in 2013.
His research has been financially supported by the European Commission (EC), the Australian Research Council (ARC), the Dutch Rijkswaterstaat, the Department of Transportation of Victoria State (VicRoads), The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Zhejiang Provincial Government. In 2012 he was awarded a research grant by the Discovery program of ARC. From 2014-2017, he was awarded two research grants by the General-Project program of NSFC.
Dr. Wang is a member of IEEE, a Senior Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, and an Associate Editor for Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies. He is a member of the Traffic Flow Theory Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the US National Academy, a member of the IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Technical Committee on Transportation Systems. He was a member of the Advisory Committee of the European Project NEARCTIS (Network of Excellence for Advanced Road Cooperative Traffic management in the Information Society) during 2009-2013. He was a Program Co-Chair of the 17th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (Qingdao, China, 2014), Program Chair of the 13th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (Madeira Island, Portugal, 2010), and a vice program chair of the 9th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (Toronto, Canada, 2006).
